High School Scrapbook

With my 10 year high school reunion a little over 3 months away I decided it was high time I finish putting that scrapbook together. For the next few weeks there will be journaling added to this blog that goes with that project as well as my other stuff. Speaking of other stuff I will be adding the photos/scans from Kayley and Justin’s Wedding album that I finished in January. And more good news, they are expecting their first child together in September or October. Congratulations to Kayley and Justin.

A.C. Moore

This is more of a rant than anything. A few weeks ago I was working on the pregnancy album for a friend when I realized I would require more 8.5×8.5 page protectors. So I went to Michaels and looked and they only had the 8×8. The next day I called A.C. Moore and they said they had them in stock. Now A.C. Moore is a 40 minute drive from where I live. I drive down there with the intention of only buying the page protectors. I get there and I start looking for them and I only see the empty space for them. I find a floor associate and ask her to look in the stock room to see if they have any, none. I be sure to tell her that I called from Morgantown to see if they had them and someone said that had and they didn’t. You can only imagine how upset I was when I left. They should be happy for GPS and Dairy Queen for keeping me calm. I don’t like being lied to, especially when it comes to something I need immediately for a project.

I really like Lisa Bearnson’s style of scrap booking but after reading her letter for the magazine and then looking at the layout I noticed one thing about it I didn’t like. She took pictures of her kids but left out the details about where they were going and the story about her being the princess bride. I think those are important details and something I wouldn’t want to leave out. Maybe this is just me. I don’t know.

Chocolate Fudge

My recipe for chocolate fudge orginally came from AOL. I searched for several different recipies and tried several before I found John’s favorite. Ever since then it has been tradition for it to be sent around Christmas to where ever in the world he is deployed or stationed at the time.

Freedom

To me, Freedom has a greater meaning than I think it does to most people. Sometimes I think people take freedom for granted. I don’t think they realize that walking down the street and going into a grocery store and all the other things we do are privilaged.

I take freedom seriously. I think it is because of my Dad. Dad is former military and a plane fanatic. our vacations always included trips to the War Bird Museum, Patrick Air Force Base, or NASA. He loves history as much as I do.

I remember the day of the terrorist attacks in 2001. I called Dad from where I worked. Someone complained I was being too loud. Maybe they didn’t realize it like Dad and I did. Someone attacked us. Someone attacked us at home. A lot of people compared 9-11 to Pearl Harbor. There is a difference between Pearl Harbor and 9-11. That is innocent civilians were targeted killed on 9-11.

September 11th, 2001 was not only a day of terror but when that terrorist hi-jacked that first plane and flew it into that building they declared war. They declared war on us by attacking us. They threatened our freedom. They made it unsafe for us to walk down our streets.

Freedom means more to me beause I have seen the sacrfices my friends hae made and I have felt them on my own. Being so close to Josh and John put me closer to this than most.

Freedom is somuch more than fireworks and displaying a flag.

Corn Pudding

I love Mamaw Whites recipe for Corn Pudding. The first time I remember having them was at my cousin Monita’s. She was having a birthday party for her kids whose birthdays are the same week as mine. Mamaw had made a few things for dinner that night including her corn pudding. I absolutely loved it so I asked Mamaw for the recipe along with her Fruit Salad recipe. She wrote them down for me on index cards but I accidently forgot them at her apartment so she mailed them to me in Morgantown.

A Favorite Spot

As strange as this may sound but my favorite spot is my bathroom here recently. Often I find myself sitting in the floor of my bathroom with my laptop working on a paper for school or I’ll take a bath and watch a DVD. My laptop has opened up many option for mobility. I like my bathroom because it doesn’t have a TV to distract me. Yeah there are other rooms in my trailer that don’t have television but there are more things in them to distract me like painting the walls, cleaning, or watching the fish. The bathroom is very basic with no frills, nothing to snag your attention away for too long.

I started spending time in the bathroom floor when my family was living in a trailer in Rand. With my little brother there was no place for me to go to do my homework without interruptions so I took to the bathroom most of the time. I guess it kinda grew from there.

Secrets of a Happy Life

I think everyone has their idea of what a happy life is. My secrets to my happy life begin with who I am as a person. I don’t walk on egg shells just to make people happy. I try not to depend on other people to do thing for me because I have a tenancy to be let down. I make myself number one in most things because I know I deserve them. When I find something that makes me happy I run with it. I don’t let people walk all over me. Most of the time I don’t care what people think of me. The opinions of the people I love are truly the only ones that matter. I don’t my life by what ‘if’s and I try not to live in the past. I appreciate and am grateful to those who go out of their way to help me.

Then there are always “The Rules”:

1. Don’t change your personality for anyone.
2. Don’t assume anything.
3. Don’t plan anything because it won’t happen.
4. Whatever happens, happens, that is the end of it.
5. Don’t worry about the things you can not control.

Things I Love

Friends
My friends are very important to me. I don’t have the best of relationship with my family thanks to my biological mother so I depend on my friends more than others probably do. Over the past 10 years I have noticed that my friends have played a key role in the person I have become. I’m more independent because of Josh. I want a family of my own because of spending time with Kristina and her family. I gained confidence from Billie Sue and lost my fear because of John. I’ve also become more determinded because of Jennifer and Josh. My network of friends have gotten me through the highs and lows in my life and I would not be where I am today without them.

Food
I love food. My favorites would be steak from Texas Roadhouse and spaghetti. I love beef. I don’t eat as much sweets as some people do but I do enjoy ice cream on occasion. Ben and Jerry’s Strawberry Cheesecake and Chocolate Brownie Batter are my favorites. My favorite beverage is Coke followed by ice cold water.

Music
Everyone in my family loves music. Blown speakers or a mal-functioning radio are just as important as a flat tire to us. I love Aerosmith. I’ve seen them in concert 4 times. I have most of their CDs and even a few of their DVDs. One day I hope to have front row seats for one of their concerts. That would be absolutely the best.

Books
I read just about everything. I like mystery novels best or historical fiction set during medeval or renaissance times. I also enjoy books about southern life because I am a southerner by heart. I listen to books on tape when I am traveling to and from Charleston. This come in real handy with my disc changer.

Movies
I love action movies, especially ones where stuff blows up. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Bravehart, The Patriot, Last of the Mohicans, Gone with the Wind, Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood are also some of my favorites.
